Horizons: Overview

Like the phoenix rising from the ashes, Horizons: Empires of Istaria has once again been reborn under the management of a new company, Vitrium LLC. Vitrium was founded in 2006. On September 13, 2007 they completed the purchase of the Horizons assets from one of the previous owners, Tulga Games. Players who followed Horizons news were excited about the sale to Vitrium, a company staffed by former Tulga employees.

Horizons is best known for its extensive crafting system and the ability to play a dragon. Players can own their own piece of land, be it as an above ground plot, or underground lair for dragons, and build that plot to suit their needs and the needs of the community. Many of the world structures in the game have also been built by players, with others still requiring the help of players to be completed. Players also craft gear for one another by making specially designed armor with techniques applied to it that fit the needs of the wearer. Weapons, tools, and containers are also all a part of the player driven economy.

On the adventuring side of the game, players can choose to play one of the (look up) “biped” races, or play a dragon. A dragon will start as a hatchling that can't fly, but as they advance they'll eventually be able to complete a quest to become an adult, and finally an ancient dragon, both which can fly through the skies of Istaria. Another unique aspect of Horizons is that as a biped character, you are able to multi-class on the same character. What are normally referred to as classes in most MMOs are called schools in Horizons. A single character can join as many schools as they wish, and raise them to the level cap in both crafting and adventuring schools.
