Bandits Reborn
Give us a brief description of your guild and why you chose the name you did.
We are a multi-game guild with roots in Asheron’s Call 1. Since last year, we have expanded into Anarchy Online and briefly into Asheron's Call 2. Our next expansion is planned into Horizons.
What is the main focus of your guild?
While being very informal, we concentrate on our members as the greatest asset of our guild and thus we only accept like-minded, loyal, mature adults who want to play without drama. Some guilds want to be the best questing guilds, some guilds want to be the best RP guilds, or exploring guilds, or have the most loot or XP, or whatever. We concentrate on our members and strive to have the best folks.
How long has your Guild been around?
We have been around for about three years now.
How was your guild founded and who are some of the founding members?
Most of us in the beginning were dagger wielding folks in AC. Creation of the guild was a slow process; we didn’t have any goals, message boards, or anything like that. We were just hanging around together. As months passed, we became what in AC terms was called a monarchy. Name chosen was “Faile’s Bandits” which jived well with the fact that Bandits were most popular dagger weapons. Since than we grew some, gained a lot of experience, bonded and had a lot of fun together. Most of the original members who have been from the start have retired from MMORPG gaming all together; the two most senior members in our guild who still play are Kellzen and I. As we moved from AC1 to AC2, we indeed were reborn and remade and it seemed appropriate to be called Bandits Reborn.
What kind of structure does your guild have in terms of leadership and roles they play?
We strive to be as less formal as possible. To that effect our structure is simple: we have a small council that is responsible for interviewing prospective members and handling whatever rare issues that crop up. And that’s it.
What resources do you provide to enhance interaction between members of your guild?
Well, there is a slew of standard stuff like a website, calendar, and message forums. Something non-standard that we have, is a special bot that I wrote that merges the in-game chats from Asheron’s Call, Anarchy Online, Horizons, and IRC all together so that Bandits playing in all the games can stay together.
What are some benefits to being in your guild?
People. We got the greatest folks in the guild. As I said earlier, people are our number one asset.
What single moment in your guilds time, have you found the most memorable?
I can’t really nail a single one, but a few stand out. Our first independent Aerlinthe quest in AC, the day when we egged mansion of Saints of Solclaim on Haloween, the day when we bought our own mansion... stuff like that.
What event has changed ‘you’ the most, since you have been in the guild?
An event does stand out that has a lot to do with how I deal with things today: we had a drama-queen in the guild sometime ago who caused a lot of grief and heartache for everyone. Ever since that time, my drama-fuse is very short.
Does your guild have or will your guild have planned gatherings, and if so, how often? (In game and/or Real Life)
We rarely officially meet in game, because there is really no need. Our guild chats are active, our forums are active. Everyone talks enough with each other and we have few policies and formalities. With respect to real life meetings, unfortunately we’re too much disbursed in real life to be able to easily gather together but it would be a great thing to do. Perhaps we’ll try.
In a short paragraph, tell us why someone should join your guild.
If someone is looking for that guild to call a home, where (s)he can play with mature adults, we might be a good fit.
If someone is interested in joining your guild, what application process (if any) must they go through?
First folks should read carefully thru our forums to see if they like our attitudes and behavior. Second of all, they should make a elaborate post introducing themselves with as much as possible information. Than we can schedule an interview with one of the council members and if all goes well we’re good to go.
What games has your guild been a part of to date?
As mentioned above, we started out in AC1, than branched out into AC2 and AO.
What attracted you to Horizons and where do see your guild in the world when Horizons starts?
We have been keeping our eyes on Horizons ever since AC2 proved to be a disappointment. Ability to build true player towns, have effect on the world, excellent crafting are just a few things that excite us about Horizons. When the game starts we expect to be making a go for a guild plot and we’ll trying to build a town.
Have you ever been a Leader of a Guild before? What MMO and what was the size of the Guild at peak?
I’ve been leading Bandits since three years ago. I have not been a guild leader at any other time. Bandits are a medium sized guild, at our peak during AC1 and AC2 days we were probably around 70 or so active members.
Tell us a little about your gaming experience and role as ‘guild master’.
As a ‘guild master’ I get to do all the administrative tasks like maintaining the website and various helpful applications (being a RL programmer helps here), as well as help our Council resolve drama and interview people.
As a ‘guild master’, tell what is the hardest set back you’ve had to deal with and how you handled the situation. (Which MMO was it and what was the out come?)
Probably the hardest time for any guild leader is when folks decide to leave the guild for whatever reasons. While turnover in Bandits is extremely low, we had our share in setbacks especially back in the day when we were learning things. But fact is a fact, not everyone will always agree on everything and sometimes even well liked and respected people decide to part ways. There is little one can do but to learn from the experience and see how things can be handled better next time around.
What would you like your guild’s role in Horizons to be?
I’m pretty sure our guild will have an impeccable as usual reputation. I just hope everyone in Bandits is happy with the guild.
Where you do see your guild a year into the game?
Together, happy and still in Horizons. It’s getting a bit tiresome to keep moving in search of that perfect game. But whatever game it is, I hope that the majority if Bandits will stick together. That’s my hope and goal.
Any other details about your guild that you would like people to know?
Yes, since our members are our most important asset, we only accept like-minded
loyal mature adults. We take our recruiting process very seriously and
hope that potential recruits will as well.
