Explorers of Legend
Give us a brief description of your guild and why you chose the name you did.
In AC1, my home was with a guild called the Walkers of Legend. We were a closely knit, friendly, fun loving bunch. We wanted a name to reflect these beginnings. Explorers of Legend did this nicely, while emphasising our thirst for quests and exploration over a strict diet of power-leveling. Explorers of Legend (EoL) was originally an Asheron’s Call 2 (AC2) monarchy, one of the largest and best-known in the game. In Horizons, we are multi-racial, multi-classed. Our membership is mostly North American, but we have members in Europe, Japan, and Australia as well.
What is the main focus of your guild?
We’re dedicated to helping our members enjoy their gaming experience to the utmost. To that end, we are constantly organizing quests, helping our crafters gather raw materials, pooling our resources so that we can maximize the benefit of our numbers, and providing as much help and guidance to new players that we can.
How long has your Guild been around?
EoL was founded during the earliest days of the AC2 beta, and was created in the Horizons beta in early August.
How was your guild founded and who are some of the founding members?
EoL spun off from the very successful Asheron’s Call guild, Walkers of Legend, on Leafcull server. When the monarch decided to move to AC2, EoL was born. Among the earliest members still playing AC2 and in the Horizons beta are our founder and Queen, Kianna; Zaboo (a guildmate from AC1 and officer in the AC2 guild); Kestrel (second-in-command of the AC2 guild), and Robynne (crafting leader in the AC2 guild). With all four of these leaders in Horizons beta as well, the guild has a very strong core already set up for Horizons.
What kind of structure does your guild have in terms of leadership and roles they play?
The monarch makes decisions based on the input from those around her, including her advisor. There will be leaders set up for each area needed, ie Craft Leader, Quest Leader and Recruiters among others. With the broad spectrum of guild tools available, we’ll be using the beta period to see how they best fit our overall goals and philosophy.
What resources do you provide to enhance interaction between members of your guild?
Our best tool is our dedicated website, http://eol.rbcb.net. Through this site, which includes breaking game-related news, message forums, and both public and private subscription groups, as well as private messaging, we’re able to communicate in near-real time to everyone in the guild. We may also provide a dedicated GameVoice server, if there’s enough demand for such a service. One of the benefits to the website is through the use of “dynamic dates,” quest leaders can post quest announcements that are automatically translated to the reader’s local time zone, so everyone “speaks the same language” in that respect. We organize well to optimise upon the sharing and supply of resources.
What are some benefits to being in your guild?
Our size has been a huge asset: No one has ever complained because the guild is “too big”. We’re still a “family” and it’s never difficult to get a group together to do a quest, or just hunt for XP. Likewise, we can easily form a “gathering party” to collect crafting materials for our artisans. Because our leaders are well-known throughout the game (in AC2, one is a moderator on the most popular fan site), and because of the very positive reputation we’ve earned, we are well-respected. Because of that respect, our members are always welcome in mixed-guild hunting and questing groups.
What single moment in your guilds time, have you found the most memorable?
Just recently, one of our leaders led a popular new quest 12 times in a row, in one day/night. Every group was full, and every member of every group completed the quest. It’s this sort of selfless dedication to the guild—and the appreciation shown by the members—that make this such a wonderful group of friends.
What event has changed ‘you’ the most, since you have been in the guild?
No Answer
Does your guild have or will your guild have planned gatherings, and if so, how often? (In game and/or Real Life)
We plan to have bi-monthly meetings in-game and currently have plans forming for a real-life meeting as early as this winter.
In a short paragraph, tell us why someone should join your guild.
Explorers of Legend is a group of friends who act and play in a mature manner. We’re dedicated to the principle that the game should be fun, and we exist as a group to make the game as enjoyable and as fun as possible. Our members are very generous and have donated many supplies and much time to help out one another. We seek out ways to optimize the pooling of resources to allow for each member to excel and the group as a whole to become great.
If someone is interested in joining your guild, what application process (if any) must they go through?
They should drop by our website and post, contact Kianna or one of her officers i/g, or email Kianna at Kianna@dereth.ac to discuss the matter.
What games has your guild been a part of to date?
AC2 and Horizons
What attracted you to Horizons and where to see your guild in the world when Horizons starts?
Horizons is offering many things that other games were never able to offer themselves. I see crafting as one of the strongest components. Communtity building, guild management resources and the attention and level of customer service available is the best I've ever seen. I see our guild as being one of the strongest out there, building the very first Keep and being the best at educating the new to Horizons and having a ton of fun fulfilling both these goals, as well as others we are discussing.
Have you ever been a Leader of a Guild before? What MMO and what was the size of the Guild at peak?
I was first an officer in the largest guild in AC1, later in WoL, a group of close-knit friends that sprang from the former. I was then Monarch of EoL, largest clan on WE. At our peak (and still climbing) we have 2500 high quality characters sworn in.
Tell us a little about your gaming experience and role as ‘guild master’.
I view my role as that of 'organizer'. I seek out ways to facilitate the pooling of resources so that every member of the clan can benefit. This ranges from items, game expertise, quest groupings, fun chat and the list goes on.
As a ‘guild master’, tell what is the hardest set back you’ve had to deal with and how you handled the situation. (Which MMO was it and what was the out come?)
The largest setback was when AC2 announced the merging of servers and the subsequent disolving of clans on servers that were leaving their world to go to another. First, rather than just whining about the situation, we posted on the developer boards our concerns. We then quickly set up a plan and people starting making characters and swearing them into this 'temporary' guild on the new server in order to ease the transition later (communication, etc). In the end, the developers answered the gamers' calls and the merge took place w/o the guilds being torn assunder. The temp guild became quite the "newbie" leveling fun as so many decided to play there until the merge, enjoying getting to know one another even better as all were starting at the ground level and building up this clan w/o the help of the high levels .
What would you like your guild’s role in Horizons to be?
We would like EoL to be one of the best-known, and most respected, guilds on our shard, if not in the game. We want to be seen as a source of the best fighters, best questers, and best crafters in Istaria.
Where you do see your guild a year into the game?
If past experience is any guide, Explorers of Legend will be one of the largest and most popular guilds in Horizons. Our members will be recognized in the top tier of every major school.
Any other details about your guild that you would like people to know?
We're here to have FUN and enjoy the game. We have no tolerance for those who seek out fun at the expense of another's. We're a group of mature minded and high quality gamers, seeking out the same to join us. We may grow in size, but the sense of family never falters!
