Legends
Give us a brief description of your guild and why you chose the name you did.
We are a family oriented Guild dedicated to our gaming community and our members. Working to overcome disadvantages and turn conflict into victory, we accomplish great things, and we do so together. Our Community is a place where 'Legends' call home. We not only strive to make a difference in the Community and our Guild but also become role models and leaders through out the land in which we are involved. With a constant goal of perfection, the Legends Community will undoubtedly strive to make a significant difference in shaping frontiers. We picked the name “Legends” because Heroes are the individuals from which Legends are born. In the Legends Guild, there is a motto that describes our commitment to each other, our organization, and our community. It is "Leadership is an Action, not a position". "Legends" translated from Medieval Latin, it means "A person or thing that Inspires."
What is the main focus of your guild?
We want to offer an atmosphere where individuals can grow and have fun. We enjoy playing games, not just MMORPGs, and want others to enjoy them while in our company also.
How long has your Guild been around?
I guess that sort of depends....”Legends”, in this name has only been around since roughly Spring 2002, though our guild as we know it know was the merger of several groups that have been around together since as far back as 1995, though under different names.
How was your guild founded and who are some of the founding members?
Assuming this in reference to our most recent merger and the “Legends” guild as it is today, I can safely say it was the merger of 2 fairly large Asherons Call 1 Allegiances. Both Allegiances knew each other for years, yet never officially joined each other. This all changed with emergence of Asherons Call 2. Both groups decided that since each already knew each other and shared the same values that a merger was in order…thus “Legends” was born. There were several founding members…2 former Allegiance Leaders from AC1 (Indiana and Hellfire) plus Lilterra, Darkseed, AuraAzu, Foreseen, JT, Kantri. I believe these members have had the biggest impact on shaping “Legends” to date.
What kind of structure does your guild have in terms of leadership and roles they play?
It depends on the MMORPG we are playing. In the Case of AC2, we had a Primary Guild Leader, which was elected by the members from candidates. From there the Guild Leader would pick a support Council staff which would be voted on ‘ya’ or ‘na’ to the Board of Elders. Their goal was to Step up as a Leader in Guild activities and help out the Primary Guild Leader when need. It is likely that many MMORPGs going forward will have a similar structure but the Leader and Staff are not necessarily the same from game to game…a lot goes into this process.
What resources do you provide to enhance interaction between members of your guild?
I would have to say our Web Site is the biggest tool. The reason our web site is here in the first place is to provide a platform for members to keep in contact out side of the game(s) plus stay in contact with each other while in between games or waiting for new games to emerge. It is nice to constantly have the same group of friends going from game to game…enjoying each others company.
What are some benefits to being in your guild?
I would have to say the biggest benefit is the members. They have to be the most understand group I have ever played with in gaming. Knowing that all of them understand that Real Life activities come first and want the same thing out of gaming that each of us do. There are so many of us that have so much in common. Out side of the above, I would say our drive for providing members information, whether it is from our automatic direct News Feeds on our Home Page from our ‘Fan Site’ staff members to our own members in beta News updates, which the public does not see and access has to be earned over time.
What single moment in your guilds time, have you found the most memorable?
I would have to say the most memorable time has to be an event in AC1…..Here I was, A fairly New Monarch in the game, not more than 4 or 5 months into retail and I was hosting the biggest Quest event for our group and some out side our group to date. I was anxious to prove my “Leadership” qualities in running a quest. Skipping ahead a little…I had gather every one together and we were off and headed out, though about 45 mins late because of difficulties getting people to an area where the group needed to start from. Everyone had ‘apparently’ put on all their protection spells for the run to the start of the Quest Dungeon. Along the way, our group had to stop once to wait for slower members to catch up so I paused for a minute. A group of Monsters we had run through were able catch us at this point. No worry though since these Mobs were fairly easy to handle. All I remember was a Rat (Called Silver Rat and not that deadly compared to my level at the time) running right pass every one straight to me. The next thing I remember was being transported to a “Lifestone”…a place a character goes when it dies. All I recall saying was ….”oh %$^* no”…. Then over the chat channel, from everyone else… extreme laugher. Apparently, I had missed one VERY important protection spell in my regular “buff” cycle and was killed in one hit from a Acid Breathing Rat….Joy. To this day….The Allegiance still gives me hell over that one event every time we head out on Quests.
What event has changed ‘you’ the most, since you have been in the guild?
I would have to say the Merger of the 2 Asherons Call 1 Guilds. I think because it made me closer to everyone in the sense it made us feel as one group rather than different groups…regardless of who the leader is in which game.
Does your guild have or will your guild have planned gatherings, and if so, how often? (In game and/or Real Life)
As far as Real Life….We have had 3 gathering to date. All have been in Boston at the (ACPL) Asherons Call Player Luncheons. The first year there were only 4 of us but that grew the next year to roughly 10. We were playing to have another gathering either in Boston or NY in Oct 03…hopefully….perhaps even Vegas in 04. As far as in game…We have gatherings all the time. It really depends on which game we are playing at the time and the events surrounding it.
In a short paragraph, tell us why someone should join your guild.
I am not going to say that everyone MUST join our guild, which would be
ridiculous. What I say to those looking to join a guild…any guild…
is ask yourself something. What do you want out of a guild? If you answer
is… A group of people that stay together from game to game, share
ideas openly, and want to feel apart of a group rather than just fell
like you are along for the ride THEN I would say our guild would be the
place to be.
If someone is interested in joining your guild, what application process (if any) must they go through?
No one ‘has’ to do anything but if someone is interested in posting in our forums then we encourage them to register in the forum, though not required. Other than that, there is no application to fill out.
What games has your guild been a part of to date?
I would have to say if we limit it to just MMORPGs then it would span, Ultima On-line (briefly), Asherons Call 1, Asherons Call 2, Dark Ages of Camelot (briefly and other names).
What attracted you to Horizons and where to see your guild in the world when Horizons starts?
I would have to say it was different from member to member but the main items to stick out were the graphics, crafting, housing and having a Dragon as a player-character class. Though when I first started following this game, a long time ago, the Angel class was what drew in my interest at first. Hopefully our group will already have an inside track as to what to expect, will hit the ground running and will immediately start shaping the frontier.
Have you ever been a Leader of a Guild before? What MMO and what was the size of the Guild at peak?
Yes, Asherons Call 1. I believe at peak it spanned roughly 900 members.
Tell us a little about your gaming experience and role as ‘guild master’.
Though the “Leader” or “Guild Master” for Horizons for our Guild has not yet been set as of yet and will not necessarily be me, I have had a lot of experience in running and organizing quests, for our guild and those not within our guild, as well as settling conflicts with inside and outside of the guild. Most of these center around my Experience as a Monarch in AC1 and as a Council Member in AC2.
As a ‘guild master’, tell what is the hardest set back you’ve had to deal with and how you handled the situation. (Which MMO was it and what was the out come?)
It would involve an incident in Asherons Call 1 crossing into Asherons Call 2. I had a lot of experience in dealing with and mediating conflicts between thieves in AC1 and I had become the victim of the biggest in game scam of them all, mostly because our group was so trust worthy. To sum up, a member had fooled many of us and over the course of time barrowed, stole and cheated items from members and myself which we had trusted. I had manage to convince this person what they did was basically wrong over the course of time and finally do the right thing. One game later (AC2) and this same exact person shows up wanting to hang around our group and even become a member of our Guild. Given the people that we are, I (we) gave this person another chance….everything worked out well and there were no problems.
What would you like your guild’s role in Horizons to be?
We want our members to have a place to call home. We not only strive to make a difference in the Community and the Guild but also become role models and leaders through out the land. With a constant goal of perfection, the Legends Community will undoubtedly strive to make a significant difference in shaping frontiers.
Where you do see your guild a year into the game?
I think trying to predict that far into the future is difficult and could come across arrogate to some. So I will just say that we hope to be on the forefront of helping shape the frontier in the Horizons Community.
Any other details about your guild that you would like people to know?
Our Guild strives to have fun, which is our main goal. We have a wide
variety of people and players of all ages from all over the US and elsewhere.
Some of us enjoy PVP, others enjoy crafting, socializing, and power leveling
among other things...most of us just enjoy having fun and just playing.
Most of us have many, many years of experience in online gaming and are
greatly looking forward to the day we can all find a game we can enjoy
together and play once again. We would love to have you join our ever
growing family!
