Community Building

In Horizons, community building is not just about constructing a home on your personal plot. Community building is building a multitude of structures that provide benefits of different types to the owner of the property. Structures can be buildings for storage, decoration, defense, entertainment, transportation, resource management, socialization, vending, construction or crafting. The owner of the property can set different permissions for the entire property and/or each individual structure. Permissions control access to and/or use of the benefits of the structures.

After sufficient construction has occurred on the individual plots within a community, computer-controlled characters will begin construction on the community plots that adjoin the player-controlled properties. It will be possible for players to assist in this development, thus expediting the benefits of the community structures that will be built.

The communities that are nearest the Frontier will be exposed to the greatest risk of hostile encounters with both the Undead and other creatures that don’t like their territory being encroached upon. It will be possible that computer-controlled opponents could besiege your community. Your personal property would be protected (though your personal safety wouldn’t), but all community construction would be at risk. These Frontier attacks range from loose groups of merely hostile creatures, to carefully orchestrated invasions of Undead hordes. If conflict of this nature does not appeal to you, be sure to obtain a plot in the more sedate portions of the long-settled world.
